Economy of the A6 2.5tdi quattro , anyone tell me mpg
Discussion
above is about spot on.
Your never going to get good economy from the quattro drivetrain with a lot of losses through the transmission of power. FWD will be better off by about 4-5mpg over the quattro equivalent.
Best I have achieved in the A4 equivalent car is 44mpg on a 1100mile round trip at a constant 65-70. Generally high 30's.

i had 2.5 tdi quattro 1996 5 cyl 40-60 mpg
We had one of these, front wheel drive 115hp model with 5 speed manual (not the six speed), and in 40000 miles of mixed usage including some towing the computer showed approx 38 MPG. Now this example had 330,000 miles when it left us so I'm not guessing it was in the best of conditions but pretending it will get 60mpg on any realistic usage is only going to give people false impressions!cptsideways said:
5 pot Tdi's are THE best by far 60mpg is easy enough & its hard to get less than 45mpg with the fwd 140bhp six speeders, I've run many of them over the years
At last ! another 5 pot owner..yep there that good..
really the 2.8 petrol is underpowered
so .. 20mpg or 40mpg ?
or £1500 a year in fuel or £3000
depending on milage of cource

Interesting facts , especially about the 2.5 5cyl diesel but it means going back so far in years ,You mention the 2.8 quattro being underpowered but I saw a really clean 120k miles tiptronic with all the toys fsh and am tempted , is it really that bad ?
if you drive it mate and your happy and the car is mint
then go for it
its still an audi and therefore a good car
the 2.8 has always been a choked engine, both the 12v and the 30v, i owned two. free up the breathing and it transforms the car.
issue with the V6 tdi is it was the follow on to the 5 pot, which was an utter corker and a hard act to follow, both the petrol and the diesel. They are good but not as good as there parents. The 5 banger deisel evolution of this engine VW still use in the transporter and earlier touaregs. And if you like is the underpinning for the V10 tdi VAG monster.
know of a few 5 banger tdis running oils on intergalactic mileages.
Boith the 2.0 and 3.0 tdi VAG units are strong, very interested to see this new 200 odd bhp TDi 2.0 unit coming out soon!
