Cold someone in the know give me some advice please?

I need to give an answer on my next company car pretty soon and I am currently down to either the new A4 or the Passat CC.

My main issue is which engine to put in though: 140 or 170? I currently have an Golf Mk5 GT TDi 140 which is very good and wouldn't like to lose the responsivness nor the very good mpg it gives me. But I have heard that because of the new emissions regulations (Euro 5?) the new CR engines were not as efficient, down on power and fairly noisy (especially the 170). Is it true / noticeable?

There are very few 170 engines available for test drive at the moment, so this afternoon I am getting a CC with a 140 engine and might consider the 170 if I find it too slow. But in the meantime, any advice are welcome

Thanks.

From the information I have seen, the CR 2.0 TDIs achieve slightly higher mpg than the PDs and match them for power/torque/0-60. They are also much much quieter and smoother, very refined.

Trouble is they are so refined they no longer feel like diesels. They also feel a little slower because the power/torque curve is very smooth, no more of the PD power surge.

Golf and Scirocco only available with the 140 CR currently, 170 should be added to the range soon.

EDIT: Quick snapshot from Passat 08 and 09 brochures comaparing the PD engines (left) with CR (right) http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x267/J400uk/VWP...
