Never head of the phrase "interval service" in my life.
But That money for a 20K "Variable" service is pretty normal.
I think its because some cas have the variable service feuture turned off, I know mine did. THe dealers do it to make more money, so you have to have it servied every year regardless or mileage. But That money for a 20K "Variable" service is pretty normal.
Mine started on time/distance, had a service at 1yr/9k and now 5months later i've done another 10k (almost).
The FM says its an interval service, which is an oil change, check battery, check tyres and pads, sticker in the door pillar. There's no way i'm paying that much for an oil change!

Where you based?
One of the guys I work with, his brother is a Audi Ind, my service was £80. All Audi parts etc....Main dealers are robbing b£%%^&&*()__+
You're not obliged to use them.
Where I live the Audi dealer I work for charges £88 per hour +Vat.
In the same town the local BMW dealer charges £105 + Vat, Jaguar is £100 + vat and the local Ford Vauxhall and Volvo dealers are all £85.
I think that's pretty competitive. AND we are introducing a special rate of £65 per hour for cars over 3 years old.
You can ask the dealer is my car on fixed or variable, and they will explain the differences and the cost implications, and if you wish you can have it changed, either way.
We have a number of customers that prefer to have it done every 10K or every year rather than when ever the service light comes on. The oil is slightly cheaper when its fixed too.
