Not sure the 98 Cabriolet is OBD2 compatable.

Either in the rear ashtray, or a 6 pin connector in the engine bay by the ecu.

As I suggested the 98 Cab is not OBD2.

The comms port is in the fuse box in the bulkhead. The lead is a old style two plug connector.

They are not always under the engine bay either.

Have a feel around the right foot rest (next to the accelerator pedal) and the socket/connectors should either be hanging out of a small hole in the underside of the dash OR you will have to poke your fingers up in that gap and have a feel around.

I had to take the lower part of the dash off in order to feed mine through.

ok so the two pole connector I have, and the hole in the lower dash panel i Have as well , I must admit I thought 98 was a bit early for OBD2 . The reason for needing it is I need to locate the fault that causes my airbag light to come on I have heard about the under drivers seat sensor, but mine just has an empty plug socket.

Looks like a trip to the stealer at some stage :-(
