get it scanned first!
Fuel injection pump is a big weak area, VERY expensive if it goes as well.

should do as a J399 error.

Usual maintenance as well, MAF, oil changes and quality of oil used.
Check turbo for being gummed up pending mileage they can get coked up. As can most VAG and VVT's, its not the fastest of the mark with that big turbo spool up, but once its at speed up its no slouch, and faster than it might seem.

Although tuning is quite restrictive as its fairly wound up from the factory with only really ECU swaps and other small tweaks before you will need major work to get more power. Mixed opinion but i believe the restriction on the remapping is the fuel injection pump itself as it can only cope with 210bhp at most otherwise the pump just cant deliver what's required. Note these operate at huge pressures. I had mine remapped with mixed results, was never happy so its reverted back and been utterly faultless since, like it for what it is, but if you want a high perfromance TDi Quattro buy a 2.0tdi or a 3.0 tdi. age old one, how deep are your pockets! Even the 1.9tdi can be wound up enormously.

Can only echo the above - decent cars if proper care is taken but don't bother with the remap.

But don't take this as negative I own one as well. Had a very love/hate first 6 months but once you just leave it as it is it does its job relentlessly. As an all round package I do rate it, but if you want something to modify and improve, there isn't much you can do. Like it for what it is. I have a quattro sport variant which the handling is right on the money for me, if you don't have a sport the only comment I would offer is the sports seats hold much better, and the sports suspension on the B6 models is good from the factory. Gives me 38-40mpg every week and makes almost no difference how you drive it. Really short powerband is the only arse, but thats the curse of a TDi!

thanks for the input guys, really like the car(its the sport varient), only had it a coulple of days but its looking good, starting to get used to the differnt techniqe of driving a tdi, if that sounds right lol, was thinking along the lines of a 20bhp remap from a reliable company, not a grat increase but just enough to notice but mainly to loose a bit of that initial turbo lag, and mabie change the back boxes for ones that are more free flowing to help too, but thats about it, youre right enough, it is a very good car to start with and dont need or want to mess about too much, does this sound reasonable enough? thanks again

that was my issue also, the turbo doesnt spool until 1800rpm which can leave you panic-y and not the best for quick starts. almost a ride the clutch approach works best, but just felt wrong. it was my primary driver for a remap after having great sucess with 1.8T remap the year before. With a TDi or indeed any car its not he BHP increase its the change to the curves, see if you can get potential tuners to give you a graph of how their map will delivery the power. top end i honestly wouldnt expect that much as it already has a slightly more aggressive map. a 150bhp of the same model variant will see a bigger hike.

ye, i think its nippy enough, ( well in the power band lol), even coming from an xk8, but only if i colud get moving more quickly and mabie widen the power band a little, but the "lag" is my primary concern with the remap, with the xk i could pull out at anything, you know what its like when the traffic's bad lol, but dont have that luxury or confidence with the audi, still very pleased though, just orderd a pipercross panel filter for it, hopfully make it breath a bit easier, anyone know if this was a good idea? thanks

my reasons for my remap were the same... i would suggest a tuning box or/and if you can go to a rolling road at the same time. Hence my suggestion for a graph of the actual power deliver most show it from 2000rpm onwards which is useless as the lag is very notable on this model, but you can get rapid starts and plug holes in traffic but it does take a bit of getting used too.

But do make sure the car is 100% before you remap it. It will only pick out problems much quicker.

havent really heard anything good about tuning boxes, im i only seeing one side of it? gonna get it checked over next week, think the thermostat could be stuck open, needle only sits just over the 1st quarter mark rether than the half way point, or is this normal on these? plus the break pedal makes a slight knocking noise upon release, the breaks work fine, it just feels a bit slack at the top if that sounds right lol, or is this common too? thanks
