Went looking for a 1.8T Convertible and got my head turned by a stunning silver S Line 3.2 V6, but didn't even know they put this engine in the A4.

Its specced to the eyeballs with NAV, Phone Prep, Heated Leather etc, multitronic with the flappy paddles and was 41k new, its a late 06 with 16k on the clock and up for 19,995 before the haggling.

Anyone got any opinion on this before I do the deed ???

It's a lot of power through the front wheels. I haven't driven a cabrio, but the standard FWD A4 torque steers like a bd.

Or you could wait a couple of days and look at the similar money and far better value quattro that's about to come on to the market tongue out

Sounds steep for a very undesirable model.

Why undesirable ? I quite like the idea of a torquey lazy engine .. am I missing something ?

Not really, just that the majority of buyers these days are looking for low road tax, low CO2, low fuel consumption. That's not a 3.2 V6 petrol. If they want torque, they will plump for a TDI. Those of us that appreciate a torquey 6+ cyl engine are few and far between in the grand scheme of things.

3.2 is actually a nice drive but I can imagine it beig horribly blunted by the multitronic box; quattro Tiptronic is the one to have with this engine and the one you're looking at sounds expensive too.

It's not that highly spec'd TBH, it just looks it in the ad. Most of that stuff comes as standard. But back to car - it'll be in the higher tax bracket (if you care about that), and with the FWD only, as mentioned before it'll struggle a little. But a lovely car though.

I've got the 3.0 TDi Quattro Sline. I think it's the best engine to get bar the petrol V8's. It's about the same performance as the 3.2, but mid/high 30's mpg, and it just creeps in to the next tax bracket down.

Purely as a smooth thing for cruising around lazily I'd agree with that.

Guess it depends what you want/expect from the car really.

What colour is the car?

Having just had a proper look they've actually got it up at competitive money; if it's in a decent shade I wouldn't *really* expect a discount particularly given the time of year.

According to my handbook, they made a front wheel drive only version as well as the Quattro. Plus in the picture on the interior, there would be a "Quattro" badge on the trim above the glove compartment.

Thank you - although 'geeky' is more appropriate than 'learned' at times.

Go on, ask me about RNS-E disc and unit interchangability nerdsillyteacherhehe

Good job. you'll love it! Bit of advice I missed off. Go for a drive over some crap roads, and make sure they fix all the rattles. They are a bit prone unfortunately, and not just from the roof. Mine had one behind the dash, and intermitant too. Took a few visits to sort, but Audi main dealers don't like doing that stuff free once the car is passed 10K miles. They also get a few window rubber and roof rubber creeks, but some vaseline sorts that.
