Why is the R8 so huge?

Why is it so wide? Why such a long front overhang?

Looking to see if it fits in my garage. It is 2.029M wide (incl mirrors) and 4.43M long. That is HUUUGE. Especially considering it only has 2 seats and hardly and luggage space. Now one will just fit width-wise in my garage opening (double with 2 doors/pillar in centre, each 2.028M wide) and I have plenty of length (ooer), but even my old Audi A6 used to take up less space, never mind the TVR T350.

Looks like I'm going to have to be really smitten to pick one. Time for a test drive.

It does seem wide however I have a double garage with 2 standard doors and I was able to put it in my garage folding one of the mirrors in.
I couldnt get on with the R8 esp from the perspective of using it every day.It is very wide to park in normal car parking spaces and Im a big bloke and not very nimble so I just looked daft getting in and out of it.

Good point - it would need a special large space just to get the door open and get in.

Wide it may be, fits in my standard garage. Recommend the test drive, I just got back from Millbrook where i played in mine this afternoon with a FANTASTIC instructor. And believe me, I have had the pleasure of some fabulous cars, but oh my god, THE GRIP!!!! The grip in the R8 is insane... way more of a car than I am a driver.
