VW Bora 2.3 V5

Hi all,
Looking at maybe jumping in for one of these at £2k-£3k.Can anyone let me what kind of nasty surprises i should look out for or for things that should have been done on a regular basis.

I am not sure about this, but the V5 can be prone (relatively) to head gasket failure... check the coolant etc carefully and check for oil changes etc...

Might be worth doing some research on a VW only forum too.

Friend had one and it started using water etc and they were told to chop it in quick which they did...

The V5 isnt really a very good engine, all the thirst of the 2.8 V6, but no more go than the 1.8T. It does sound quite nice though.

Id probably be looking for a 1.8T.

Mate had a Golf V5, sounded nice but very thirsty and throttle can be jirky.

Thanks Guys, we all seem to be going the same way.Sounds nice but thats about it.I'd be better off looking for the 2.8,Oh well back to the drawing board.
