Transporter T5?
Discussion
So we need a van for ferrying around bikes and when we are going away for the weekends, and top of the bill is a Transporter, probably a LWB, and ideally a 2.5 if possible.
Are there any horror stories out there about them we should be aware of? Everyone rattles on about them not being the van the T4 was, but unfortunately we want something a bit newer with a non intergalatic mileage on it, which is bordering on impossible to find, unless there is a very late low mileage one out there I have missed.

Typical faults on the 2004 onward T5 are, knocking lower steering UJ - now sorted by a modified unit, crunching synchros on the five speed boxes, and flywheel problems on the five pot engines, but very few and fair between on these. I have a fleet of 10-15, and have sold loads, and the worst I have had is a a couple of gearboxes, but the VAG warranty is superb.
Go for it, you won't be disappointed - Stong as an ox

Seems to be the same things I have heard then, nothing too horrific. I can warranty it through work and even have it looked after in the workshop, but regardless, I would rather not have the hassle, I want something thats just going to work.
Flying Banana, i'm assuming by your profile, you're a main dealer, unfortunately i'm not looking to spend main dealer pricing. This is something for chucking bikes in for race weekends, with muddy fields and trips to the Alps biking.
I'm not spending main dealer money on something for that!

So you'd not buy one because of what may never happen? Each to their own mate but I think you'd be better off not buying anything with an engine and mechanical workings full stop!!!!!
As I said, mine has been faultless. Come to think of it I know 5 builder types around here with them and don't remember anyone talking about problems.
