I have a mk4 Golf 1.8t 180 version.

The car is a 53 plate on 46k.

Every few days the engine emissions light will come on, stay on for a couple of days, then go off again. This has been happening for the last month or so, although there is no change in performance when this happens.

Can anybody shed any light on this atall? or what else could be causing the problem?

Thanks,

Matt

You need to find someone with VAGCOM to run a check and find out what the fault is ideally.

you need to look at the fault code, could be a simple sender failure, code will advise what.

As said before you need VAG.COM to identify the issue. It will probably be a coolant temp sensor, very common on this car. Pretty easy and cheap to fix

Had the car on vagcom.

No faults showed up, which was annoying!

Where do I go now?

No the light wasnt on at the time. But surely it should have kept a log of the fault in the ecu? There were a couple of other faults, (window motor etc) but nothing engine of emissions related.

Maybe the vagcom was a bit basic? I know VW can definitely check the fault history

I'm not sure if there are different versions of vagcom? Unless I've been told differently?
