Passat W8 whistling noise
Discussion
My new-top-me '02 Passat W8 Tiptronic
has an annoying high pitched hum coming from somewhere behind the engine bulkhead or passenger side dash. It sounds like feedback from a speaker or a small electric motor on it's way out.
The noise only starts when in gear and when the accelerator is pressed.
It goes away a second or two after the accelerator is released.
Sometimes the noise appears when you start the car.
It never starts when the car is in neutral or parked.
Sometimes the noise continues for a while after you come to a stop.
The three possibilities as far as I can tell are:
Fuel Pump
Bad earth/alternator hum through speaker (even when stereo is off?)
Pinched/split intake pipe
Any ideas?
