Tyres on 2.7 Quattro A6
Discussion
I spoke to Audi Customer Services about this. If Audi sell a used car, worn tyres are replaced in singles on the fwd cars and in pairs accross the axle on Quattros - they definitely don't replace all 4.
When I had a Boxster, Porsche advised replacing tyres in pairs regardless of drive.

I had an email from Audi Customer Services on this point. They said that all four wheels must have the same make, size, tread pattern and compound of tyre and that tread depth variation should be no more than 3mm across all 4 wheels. When I had a Boxster, Porsche advised replacing tyres in pairs regardless of drive.
I bought 4 no Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas for mine, and couldn't be happier in terms of grip, handling and noise. Plus they were half the price of Dunlops! (check tyre revire websites)

Sounds like good advice, I change the tyres on mine anyway when they get below 3mm. Running Michelin Pilot Sport 2 all round currently and they are very good tyres, but not cheap...
I meant 3mm front to back. i.e. if the fronts are 5mm, then the backs should be between 2 & 8mm.Fatboy
That's how I used to run my 996 C4. I had 18s on that and used to run different compound Pirellis from front to rear, sometimes different makes front to rear too. I never had a problem and Porsche also use a Torsen centre diff.
Same make, same compound, same tread would be a nightmare.
Which end tyres tend to wear out first on A6 Quattros?

Mines an A4 Cab Quattro, and they're pretty even wear I'd say. I do mine is pairs simply 'cos I had a puncture on a part-worn front, so replaced the pair, so now they're out of sync with the backs. That's how I used to run my 996 C4.
