I'm thinking of buying a new toy, did have an MX5 1.8 turbo but now got a baby on the way and the wife said i can have a toy but its got to have more seats. Thinking maybe a Golf 2.8 V6 4Motion or a Corrado VR6 Storm or maybe something else?? Has any one got any view on these? Could really do with some Help?? P.s have only got about 4k so spend.

Depends on your taste really, but personally I would be going for a VR6 Corrado. Will probably hold its value better, is better to drive and more of a modern classic.

You can get good ones for about £3k me thinks which will leave some money left over for work etc.

Corrado will be more fun but have less space. Getting a really good one may be difficult. V6 4motion more practical but boring in comparison. Suspension on V6 4motion is very, very soft !! I had one for nearly 4 years. Super engine and well built but the rest was too soft for me ....

I wouldn't get too hung up on getting a Storm rather than a normal VR6, go on condition, history etc..

This look nice, low mileage and sits nice with the after market suspension.

I had a Golf for 3 years and regard it as a good allrounder. However, if you can find a nice one, only the Corrado has the classic factor.
View the Golf as a sort of hatchbacked premium saloon and you'll be OK. Its smooth and reasonably quick but not much fun to chuck about being floatier than you might expect.
Great value through; especially compared to the R32 which is a very different sort of car.
