My 2000 Toledo 1.9tdi has started playing up recently. It chirps to warn me that the handbrake is on when it just isn't. This happens when pulling away if stopped in traffic, not necessarily after the handbrake has been on mind, just if held on the brakes as well.

Also on the way to work this morning the indicator wouldn't blink - it would just stay on permanently & made no tick-tock either.

However indicator issue sorted itself out, for now at least, once the ignition had been turned off and on again.

Any ideas as to what is up with it kind people?

Sorry - Haven't any pearls of wisdom I'm afraid - try:-

www.seatcupra.net

Toledo has it's own sub-section. Good luck.

Indicator could just be a sticky relay. To make the light flash the relay will basically turn it's self of/off. If it's got slightly damp, it could just stick (turning ignition off/on would drop the connection). No idea where it would be I'm afraid though ! I should be able to find out much later tonight.

As for the handbrake, is the light actually light up on the dash, or was it just the buzzer that sounded ?

I'm looking at a Toledo as a commuter - have you had any other issues with yours? I've read that electrical gremlins are the main problem, but otherwise are they decent motors?

Thanks I'll have a look - I'm sure I had a log in for this site but haven't been on there in Donkeys!

Yeh its both the buzzer sound & the light flashes almost permanently, although the car does leak sometimes. Maybe this is causing chaos somewhere?

Apart from replacing an airflow metre mechanically its never let me down. This is the first electrical issue I've had with it, not bad for 160K really!

Mine does leak however, it was an issue with the inner door cards on the earlier models of Toledo & Leon. I've never really bothered about it but you may want to check that out if your thinking of getting one.

Apart from that and the issues I having now its been fantastic and for the price you can get them for now IMHO you can't go wrong really, especially in diesel form.

Thanks Chris - everything I've read about them so far makes them seem like a decent find, and being insurance group 6 should make it kind to my wallet...

I'm a little concerned about the leakage issue, but if I pick one up for £1.5 - £2k I won't be too shy about ripping the door card out and getting trigger happy with some expanding foam smile

Hope your 's cures itself soon!

The relay for the indicators/hazards is built into the hazard warning switch. A quick switch swap should fix it if it hapens again.

As for the damp, yes, a very commen problem & it could well be causing your handbrake problems. The water gets in through the inner door skin & will then soak the carpet. The handbrake switch is very close to the carpet, so if the carpet has been wet for a while, the switch could well have got rusty.... (re-sealing the inner door cards & door seals should fix the leak - I'll dig out a thread later).

Good luck !

If the door cards are the same as Skoda do - there's two types determined by how they are fastened --

TYPE1 - cards are screwed on with membrane acting as waterproofer -this fails and needs to be replaced ..
TYPE 2 - card is riveted on - membrane also fails ,but Skoda's trick is to use sealant gun around edge of card(saves drilling out rivets) - from Skoda sites it appears that this is usual cure whether the cards are riveted or screwed .
Another problem ( on Skodas ,possibly also on Seats ) is leaks from the pollen filter due to it being in dire need of a filter change and removal of garbage fouling filter . And also the problem with ( usually rear ) windscreen washer pipes coming off at either bulkhead join or behind rear seat .
