Golf Edition 30
Discussion
The supercarmarkret www.Motorpoint.com have a fare few Golf GTi edition 30's all with delivery miles,09reg, manual,5 doors, in reflex silver. Priced @ £19500 to £20,000.
I'm sure they have been sitting around for while now. Was it not late in 07 when this model was introduced ?
Is this worth it, or do I go for the new Mk6?

If going for a MK5 wouldn't it be better to get a Pirelli same 230 bhp but will be later models as there are some of the last MK5s made http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1072720.htm

Yeah but it doesn't come with Pirelli P-Slots... MKVI GTI uses the EA888 engine which has 211PS, just under 210bhp.
Also there seems to be quite a price hike over the previous versions of the GTI and in fact the Rocco looks better value for money as it has some standard features which are options on the GTI but costs just over £1K less than the 3dr MKVI GTI.

I would like a Mk5 GTi or R32 but the E30s just look so rubbish that I am not sure I could live with one. Is it just me!?
It's just you, but then I am biased as I had the choice of an R32 or Edition 30 but preferred the looks of the Ed 30
FWIW I have had my Edition 30 for just over a year and am really

FWIW I have had my Edition 30 for just over a year and am really happy with it .... goes really well and no rattles or creaks at all. It's only done 11K mind but nevertheless is better than most other cars I have owned in all respects !
I posted about the motorpoint ed30s here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

From what I have seen , imported cars do not suffer badly when you look to sell them on in 2 or 3 years. I am sure I have heard of dealers stocking them too.
Sorry but they do, especially if its 2-years old as its ran out of warranty wheras a UK car would still have a year left.Hi guys,
I'm looking at buying an Edition 30 DSG (hopefully this weekend!) for my wife, after convincing her that a Golf was the way to go (persuaded her away from a Fiat bravo (italian, unreliable), Focus ST and ne Impreza WRX (both too thirsty considering her commute to work) and Audi A3 and S3 (A3 too boring, S3 unfortunately over budget).
Anyway, I'd like to know if there are any well known problems etc. to look out for on MK5 GTIs in general- I like to do my homework! So far, I've read that the stereo and climatronic can be temperamental; rear light lenses can get condensation due to failing seals; door seals can fail allowing water in and rotting the carpet; and air con compressors/condensers can fail.
This all sounds like doom and gloom but I suspect these are isolated cases (having owned extremely reliable VWs in the past!) and the car we'll be going to look at sounds like it's in tip-top condition (we're in Switzerland and it's fair to say that cars here are generally in much better condition than the UK).
Has anyone experienced such problems that I highlighted above? And would anyone care to comment on fuel- I've read that the FSI engine likes high-octane fuel, and that running on 95 RON can lead to running and starting problems (again, I doubt this...)
Cheers for any replies...
