Golf GTi DSG Fuel Consumption

I drove my friends 55 plate GTi over the weekend on a 50 mile round trip on sweeping country roads. Got stuck behind heavy traffic for most of it so sat at 50mph in 6th.

I drove it very lightly and the trip computer (for the 50 miles) stated 31mpg. If I was doing the same trip in my old Subaru Impreza I'd expect 33-35mpg if not a bit more.

Is this mpg normal - I thought the FSI and DSG was an efficient combination??

Sounds a little low but I dont remember my old impreza ever getting so fuel efficient.
