hello,

have you owned a golf or other vw from a similar age?
A scirocco is a mixture of mk1 and mk2 golf parts so engines are a dodle to work with and not over complicated. Parts are easy to obtain and generally very cheap. Id definately check the fuel tank and fuel filler neck for corrossion and also drain the fuel tank. Id consider doing a mini service including fuel filter, air filter, plugs, leads and getting the carb set up correctly as this will make a huge difference.

Generally speaking the mechanicals are very reliable and the car is more likely to be suffering from rot- check the suspension top mounts front and rear, the sills especially at the join to the rear arches and inner arches for signs of rust.

Id also check the suspension itself, is it quite bouncy? i had a rocco in the past and the suspension was like a pogo stick.

the tank and filler are good, to be honest the cars immaculate, id post some pics but i dont no how. all the suspension apart from the front legs has been replaced, all new bushes, wishbones, 4*brake calipers, discs + pads, brake lines everythings been done.
my dads sorted my carb as he's a mechanic but im going to keep my eye out for some webers i think. iv never owned an old vw before but a mate of mine has had a few mk2's and they all seem to rattle like hell where as the rocco's really quiet and solid
thanks for the feedback

Ah you sound like you have found a good example of one then!!!!
i guess your mates golf cant have been a very original one and likely to have been toyed around with. The only annoying knocks and bangs most mk2s have are from poorly fitted exhausts hitting the back axle.

If you go down the webber route a 32/36 twin choke is a good option for road use and it is possible to use up to twin 40s on a 1.8. I wouldnt recommend twin 45s as they would make low speed driving horrific and use gallons of juice. If you have a look on club gti there is a big block carb engine tuning section with loads of info.

To post pictures, register with photobucket and upload your pics online then copy the IMG tag into forums and it will display your pic!
