2002 VW GOLF CONVERTIBLE 2.0 Fuel gauage doesn't work

Hi, I have just bought a 2002 VW Golf Convertible 2.0 but, the fuel guage doesn't work and the trip computer doesn't pick up how many miles are left in the tank. I have tried changing the clocks but, no luck. I have also tried bypassing the connector in the boot but, nothing changes from the guage. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance
