Replacing an engine ECU advice please...

Can anyone offer any advice please?
I'm going to replace my ECU in the week and would like to know what involved in doing this.Removal and replacing the ECU Im ok on but can anyone please confirm if I'll have any issues with the keys,immobilser etc not matching the ECU(only replacing ecu like for like)?
Also is it just a matter of popping the new one in and resetting the ECU with vagcom( I have the full registered version) and away you go or is there any more involved..?

My car is a mk4 VW Bora 2000/W year if it helps

You will need the old keys and clocks matching to the ecu by either VW or someone with the specialist software, iirc VAG-COM can't do this
