Remap and air filter, surely must be the first step on any 1.8T engined car?

Quick call to Eibach would be my first move - standard power is alright but standard steering is not!

A mate has a GTi 5 door, running chip (GIAC), exhaust, intake and a few other mods.

Before I did some work to my car it gave me a decent run for my money.

But do the suspension first. Transforms the car.

everyone seems to really dislike the steering of the car i think its ok a bit tyre squeely but seems quiet planted does changing the suspension do that much to it as mine feels really quiet stiff,as for re-map how much and where is good for it up in bonnie scotland wink

The AUM has the K03S turbo, as opposed to the K03 which came on the ealier engines, this means a re-map normal yields around 195-205bhp, whereas earlier ones see 195 at the most.

Revo Technik and Custom Code are pretty safe bets for a re-map, no idea whats available in Scotland though.

Im still to get my AUM re-mapped, as Ive got the dreaded 17705 fault code, with a suspected boost leak somewhere, just havent had a chance to get under the bonnet and find it yet.

As above re-map, sports cat, maybe a carbonio intake and if you're feeling flush a front mount intercooler from the likes of forge. I've seen some cars with similar mod's pull 220+ (calculated fly) I'm sure you can see dyno plots on Awesome Gti's websites and you can then see what mods each car has

these seem good results for example at the wheel

Exhaust, filter and a re map should do the trick

Try these guys, come highly recommended in the VW world and they will come to you. http://www.r-techpower.co.uk

I would definately think about changing the suspension, just done my golf with lowered shocks, springs and powerflex bushes all round. Makes the car so much tighter and direct. Dont go lower than 40mm though or you will start to encounter problems.

Nothing Mondeo drop links won't sort.

The KO3S won't hold boost at the top end, especially not with a Revo map where they spike the turbo out of it's efficiency range deliberately - to make it feel quicker than it actually is.

Instead of all these piecemeal upgrades, you'd be better off saving your money and going straight to the K04-001 upgrade, which is a bolt-on upgrace for AUM / BJX and any other K03S based engines.

http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?prod...

People tend to go with hp numbers only but they mean nothing. The reality is a K04-001 will kick the K03S's backside from 3500rpm upwards and leave such an equipped car standard, remapped or otherwise, the 03S just doesn't have the flow. It's an all or nothing low rpm special.

Do you mean -023 k04 ( from the likes of s3 and cupra r ?)as I was always led to believe that the 001 was an aftermarket version very similar spec wise to an 03s, maybe look at a hybrid from the likes of JBS or am motorsport. the other option if you want to go to the hassle of swapping turbo's is elimantor kits or then move on to IHI's or true GT's . then that's a downward spiral that leads to very empty wallet sindrome that you'd of been better off just buying a fast car in the first place.

been there and got the t-shirt with a mk4

For more info try www.uk-mkivs.net this will have been debated to death on there

Nope, the K04-001 is a proper Borg Warner turbo and bolts straight onto the K03S manifold. Slightly smaller than the K04-023 you see on TTs and the like.

It's the cheapest way to get 230-240hp from a K03 based engine.

GT28RS and IHI upgrades as you say cost money, but past 300hp and the conrods can bend, not to mention standard valves dropping. Past 350hp and the gears can strip. I've been there aswell.

Buy a car that's fast in the first place. Hmmm, well £2.5 to £4K for a MK4 1.8T plus a grand for the K04-001 kit gives ~ 230hp. What other premium hatch offers that level of grunt for £3.5 to £5K? And the potential to do a good deal more.

Very good point, if it handle's anything like my old A3 1.8T then sort the suspension. Quite possibly the most devoid of feeling steering I've ever experienced in what's meant to be a sporty sort of car!

Highly recommended - from personal experience! And nothing wrong with the K03s turbo. My vRS gets 231bhp/251lbf from a K03s, remap, 200cel cat and Supersprint exhaust. i am very happy with the way it drives.
