Excessive tyre wear on B6 Passat - normal?
Discussion
I've got a 2.0 TDI Passat estate (B6, 2006) which seems to be knocking out rear tyres.
The inner edges of both tyres are significantly worn (75%) and heavily feathered whereas the outside edges/middle were approx 25% worn and there was no sign of feathering. The tyres were also causing a fair amount of noise - it sounded like worn wheel bearings - which has ceased now I've had the tyres replaced.
Given that the tyres (standard-fit 235/45 17 on appropriate VW alloys) are over £100 per corner, any suggestions as to what's causing this?

To be honest I didn't push the issue as it's a company car and when the droning gets too bad again I'll just phone Kwik Fit for some new ones. On a serious note however it is clear that there is some issue with later model VAG vehicles judging by the number of posts but whether it is down to the block pattern on modern tyres or the camber set up remains to be seen (or remains to be acknowledged).
