On paper the R32 is better performance wise, but which is the more desirable/rarer/better all rounder?

An anniversery is just a jazzed up gti or tdi where as an R32 is in a league of its own and my brother has just brought one with 110k on the clock for 5k. what a bargin

Having owned both i preferred the Anniversary, mine was a 150pd with a remap, and everyday performance was on par with a stock R32

It depends what you want from the car, the R32 handles better but drinks like a fish.

Both have bespoke bodykits and interior and i preferred the look and interior of the anniversary not to mention the fuel economy

Yes, i've heard the R32 is thirsty. What kind of mpg does an Anni GTI return?

Also, with all Anni's being 02 plates and therefore 7 years old now, what kind of things should one be looking out for on a car which will typically have 60000 - 80000 miles on the clock?

My Mk4 2.8 4motion does between 13-15mpg in and around london and about 25mpg on motorways.

And the R32 has 400cc more to drink....

My R32 done 17-19mpg in town and about 26mpg on a run, which is worse than my E46 M3 is managing (but has 100bhp) more
The Anniversary being a TDi, would do 35-42mpg in town and up to 55mpg on a run.

looking like it did it wasnt hard to see why i preferred my anniversary and miss it very much

My R32 (Mk5) does 32mpg on a run, averages around 28mpg but drops to less than 20mpg around town.

To be honest both are good cars, just buy the one that suits you best. GTI is easier to get power out of if you are into modding.

The Anni has better fuel economy and (in petrol form) is more tuneable. Otherwise the R32 walks it on every count. Tune 1.8T up and it will see off a R32 but in stock form? Leave it out!
