i just sold my 3 door mk4 1.4 litre golf.
loved this car.was my first car, had it for 3 years and never had a problem with it.

but now im lookin to upgrade and after a bad few months i want something to cheer me up.

So the question is should i get a mini cooper 2004 model
or
a mk5 vw golf 3 door probably 1.4 or 1.6????

opinions appreciated!!!! thanks

If you've got some no claims then I'd say it's time to be a bit more adventurous! i.e faster!

depends on your budget and what you are looking for in a car....... if id spent years driving a 1.4 id clearly want something a bit more exciting!

Id find a 20vT or 4Motion Mk4 more appealing than a 1.4 mk5 even though the mk5 is said to be a significantly better car. Mini cooper - would have to be a Cooper S with the charger on it.

Althought he standard Cooper shouldn't be discounted - fun in the same way an old Mini is: you can drive it at 110% without going ridiculously fast!

Don't bother with the 1.4 MK5 Golf (unless its a TSI), stick with the 1.9 TDI 105 (preferebly in sport trim so you get the 6-speed) or the 1.6 FSI, SE upwards.

Having said all that, I think a MINI Cooper is a nicer car to have and quicker than a cooking-spec 1.6/ 1.9 Golf.
