I have a A4 Cab, 2006 2.0Tdi. There is a rattle from the front of the soft top, from inside the plastic cover, I can hear what sounds like a loose nut & bolt moving about.
Is this a common problem? Expensive? I've had the car from new, the warranty expired the end of March, the car has less than 10K on the clock and been serviced by Audi, so do you think they would sort it out as the roof mech should last more than 3 years? If not I think I will be buying a BMW next.
I won't be able to get it into a garage for nealy a month due to work commitments and going on holiday, but will book it into a dealer, but would like opinions.
I live north of Manchester, but will not use Bolton, Stockport or Manchester.

With 10,000 miles on the clock I wouldn't be surprised if Audi did offer a goodwill contribution but every goodwill application is treated as an individual case; the only way you'll know is if you book it into a main dealer and ask.

Don't know if helps but I experienced the same problem as youself @ 30k. I checked everything and whittled it down to the plastic covering immediately ahead of the roof on the passenger side. It seemed that pressing upon the covering stopped the rattling so I was all set to take the whole thing apart myself to see what was loose. Before I got started the rattling mysteriously stopped and I've enjoyed silence for a year now.

I had this on mine. It's one of the metal-ends to one of the strings that tighten the roof as it closes tapping on the frame. The fix is to a) find the culprit, and b) put a bit of felt on the roof frame to stop it rattling.

You may also want to make sure it's not one of the windows creaking against the rubber seals of the roof. Vaseline in all the points of contact (roof-roof, roof to windows and roof to windscreen surround) sorts it.

I knew I was tempting fate with my reply above but now the rattle is back with a vengance mad
Yesterday I gave a mate a lift and the ham-fisted bugger slammed the door so hard on two occasions
I thought the car would disintegrate. The car remained generally intact however the rattle has returned. As far as I remember the first occurance was also down to the door being slammed. I really can't be doing with people with no mechanical sympathy.
