Hi All,

I've been seriously considering one of these once I sell the M3.

I am thinking about going for the 130bhp version however, I am also tempted by the 150bhp one! Both seem to offer good performance and economy in a very tidy package.

Anyone had any experience of either of these two and is there much difference between the two other then bhp that a simple remap would rectify or are there more differences?

Any advice/help is much appreciated!

Many thanks.

I test drove both before opting for the Golf derivative.
the 130 felt a lot more "alive".. the 150 to me felt too harsh. Same goes for the golf. the ride was noticably harder in the 150 and the performance difference is negligable... these engines, love to be revved and also love the higher mileage. The wifes 130 with 20,000 miles wouldnt touch my 130 with 100,000 miles for acceleration and in gear performance.

Best advice, Drive them both back to back if you can and go with whatever feels the nicest. dont me mislead by the 150 just cos its more powerful on paper

Cheers mate! that's exactly the type of information I was looking for!
I've read on the net somewhere that the 130's are also more reliable?

One other question which might sound very silly but how do you tell the difference between the different power versions of TDI Sport available (100, 110, 130 & 150)?

Is this mentioned on the log book or somewhere on the car?

Thanks!

The badge usually give it away. Imagine the bold text is red.

TDi = 90bhp

TDi = 110bhp

TDi = 130bhp

TDi = 150bhp

This is also on the plastic cover on the top of the engine.

Otherwise the best bet is to look at the engine code.

A good freind had a 130bhp TDi Bora and it was a great car.

Fantastic! thanks mate this is great and really helps.
Do feel like the 130bhp version is probably the best of the bunch.

Be careful whilst the badges are an indication, they were also applied by dealers and not the factory so are not 100% accurate.

As for the 130BHP Bora; it's an excellent package. I've got a 130BHP Highline, I've owned it for 3 years and couldn't be happier.

Don't rely on the badges to tell you the engine power, look for the build sticker in the service book or in the boot somewhere, usually near the spare wheel, and check the kW figure. You can convert this to the bhp figure by xly by 1.359 I think, ie 100kW is 135 bhp.

The 130 tdi 6 speed gearbox was used across the board for the VAG group..I had in in the Audi which had a few engine tweaks over VW engine, but I prefer this over other TDI's specifications..

I did drive a 150 Tdi Bora a few times and found it harsher and not as refined..

The 130 Tdi is the one to go for with the 6 speed box..

Well, that and the power output printed on the spec sticker in the service book... wink
