Drive Belt Change 1995 Audi A4
Discussion
Hi guys
The drivebelt (belt for power steering, alternator) snapped on my mother's car the other day.
I've bought a replacement and have tried to fit it, but I'm seriously stumped by the drive arrangement. I can't find a single tensioner for any of the belt (it has A/C fitted), there is very little space to go within (why did they mount the engine longitudinally!!!). It's really starting to get to me now.
Can anybody offer so advice before I give up and have it put in the garage?
Usually I'm not too bad with cars, but this one seems to be pointlessly complicated

Normally there are 3 drive belts, one for A/C one for Alternator, fan and PAS, and a little piggy back one for the water pump. + the cam belts its self behind the cover. Be aware we have seen these when the alternator belt comes off and bits of it get under the cover and make the cam belt jump over teeth and destroy the engine.
To change the drive belts, You have to put the front end (the big plasic bit that support the radiator and the headlights etc). into the service position. You need to remove the front bumper and take out the bolts for the front panel 3or4 each side
Then the front panel comes forward about 3 or 4 inches and your can then get in there and see what happening.
Also if the belt broke check the tensioner, if its at a funny angle that why the belt broke and you need a new one of those too, is very common. If your driving it to a garage, keep an eye on the temp gauge as the water pump probably isnt being driven.
