Touareg Warning Light Problems

I own a 2005 TDI Touareg and have a couple of warning lights which I need some help with please.
Firstly, the "Check Brake Lights" warning light came on a few weeks ago and the third, high level, brake light was not working. I was taking the car abroad a few days later so took it into my local VW garage who diagnosed a faulty light unit. They got one in for me for the next day but couldn't fit it before my trip. I fitted it myself without too much trouble, it worked for 1 day then threw the warning light again. Obviously not the units fault, £60 odd quid for nothing!
Today it has thrown an "Airbag Fault" light for no reason whatsoever.
Are these common faults which can be rectified easily?
Any advice appreciated, thanks in advance.
