VW Golf GTI or Skoda Fabia VRS?

Morning all,

As the title suggests really. I am just selling my car and looking to spend 5-6k on my next one. I don't do a million miles at the mo, although a work re-location is possible over the next 12 to 18 months which would give me a max of 90 mile round trip each day, although that would be the absoluet most, realisitcally 30 mile round trip depending on where I end up. At the moment I literally have a 5 mile round trip, so most miles are for fun locally with journeys up to around 40 miles at a time.

I really like the look of both the Mk4 Golf GTI and the Fabia VRS. Both fit nicely into this price bracket.

Obviously the Golf would be around 2002 and a Fabia 2004 for the same money.

I will be test driving both. Still love my driving and want it to feel a bit of fun still, but also not hurrendous fuel consumption.

Before I get these test drives in, any advice or views? Preferably from current owners of both regarding the real cost and fun factor that they offer owners.
