Passat SatNav/Headunit freezing up?

I have a 55 plate Passat with the integrated DVD sat nav and have noticed recently that the whole unit seems to freeze up so that none of the buttons work - even changed to radio 2 the other morning before freezing so I got stuck with that for a few miles.
The only way I can get it back to normal is to turn off and remove the key.
Has anyone else experienced this, or is it a known fault/fix?
