The TT has a very lumpy idol, it's totally normal. You could change all 4 coil packs to see if that makes it better, but it won't fully cure it. Nothing to worry about.

From cold it should hovering at about 1,200 RPM then after a minute or so settle down to 850 RPM.

Coil packs are about £30 each from Audi, I would not worry, my A4 1.8T (same engine) does the same and coils were not changed a long time ago.

Just traded my 225 in at the weekend after 7 years. Mine always did this - did it new, did it after 7 years. Did it after new coil packs, did it after oil change/service etc. Only seemed to move around 250rpm or so but definitely noticeable at a standstill when just switched on. Never caused me any concern or problems.

If I was you I'd just keep an eye on it and if it continues to be a worry get someone to look it over. No point spending £120 on coil packs (add a few quid more if you want them to fit them) if they may not be the problem.....and probably aren't.

Might even be a dodgy voltage regulator in the dash unit. (very common)

Are all other gauges OK?

You should try mine. Aftermarket Cams and disconnected VVT. The whole car vibrates and shakes at idle now. Bloody awesome.

4,843 posts and you think you'll get off without pictures and specs? Sounds like fun!

It's a stock S3. Nothing special to look at...

I've got the stats somewhere. It's getting on the dyno soon for a before and after remap (custom unitronic tune) so I'll do a thread about it. Basically it has Silicon induction hoses, Silicon intercooler hoses, BMC CDA, N75J Race Valve, APR D1 Diverter Valve, 3" custom downpipe to a full remus exhaust, the aforementioned cams, disconnected VVT, suspension (eibach and bilstein) and brakes (slotted rotors and Ferodo DS2500 pads). Once the chip goes on I'm looking at getting a bigger garret turbo and a stealth front mount intercooler.

And not a single external modification.

The cams were interesting - really changed the rev range, much more laggy below 2,200rpm but extending past the previous red line. And it doesn't sound all that subtle anymore biggrin
