A6 3.0Tdi Quattro- Flashing glow plug light
Discussion
Hi, av just bought an A6 3.0Tdi, used it for a week with no trouble then today the glowplug light started flashing and the emission control light is on, the car is also in limp home mode. I know it needs to be plugged into the vagcom, but can anyone give me any ideas? Thanx in advance for any replys.
There are a huge number of things that can put that light on, fuel pressure sensors, boost pressure sensors etc, But it will probably by a sticking manifold flap motor, or perhaps more likely sticking (over boosting) turbo.
Glow plugs do fail and will cause the light to come on, but dont put the car in limp home mode.
When the car goes into limp home, pull over switch it off and on again and it will be ok for a bit, but you need to get the fault codes read to see whats up with it.

Had the car at Audi today they found a blocked fuel filter & 1 faulty glow plug. Fixed for the sum of £200! Least its running again, how do I avoid the turbo problems?
you can't
once they've gone you can have them cleaned, but that may not work.
Other than that Audi will want £1200 for a turbo.
Depends on the model and engine. A6 3.0TDI its quite accessable at the top at the back, only about 2 hrs.
Petrol 2.7 twin turbo in older S4's etc, its an engine out job, 10 - 15 hours
The jags had the same 2.7 Diesel engine as the disco's, was an all day job to do one of them, and the jag version of that engine had two.

Body off for a LOT of 2.7 jobs on a disco, try 30 hours of labour O_oPetrol 2.7 twin turbo in older S4's etc, its an engine out job, 10 - 15 hours

Got some photos of the first one we did in my time at Stratstone.
