Make sure the cambelt has been changed recently. The service is due every 40,000 miles or 5 years IIRC. Cost is around £500 from a specialist.
As you say turbos are known to pop, but it's certainly not unheard of for the originals to last 150k+.
Has the car been remapped?
Dash displays seem to go fail fairly regularly, although you can get these fixed for a relatively modest sum.

thanks for the help, don't know about a re-map as i haven't looked at a car yet, wanted advice first.
so if a car has done close to 150k on the same turbo should i avoid?
I don't know about these car's specificly but if you go into buying a car that might require work soon then budget for it before you buy the car and then you're prepared for it. Or negotiate a discoiunt to cover the potential cost. so if a car has done close to 150k on the same turbo should i avoid?
Just my thoughts as I found out the hard way with a G60 Corrado when the charger blew unexpectedly!
A regularly stamped service book and evidence that care has been taken rather than 'bare minimum' oil changes is a very good sign
Certainly; asking the owner if bushes/MAf/diverters/N75 have given him any trouble is worthwhile. If he knows what you're talking about then you're far more likely to be buying of someone with the impetus to take proper car of it.
MAF and diverters wear with age, these can make the car a little rough, slow and lazy coming on boost.
Front suspension bushes (there are lots!) wear with age and make the car bump steer and feel unstable/rolly.
As mentioned above, DIS screen will slowly die but Cluster Repairs UK don't charge much to fix it properly.
Volume knob on standard stereo will fail at some point. OE Electronics will fix it for about 80 quid but probably easier to go aftermarket.
Plinth above the rear number plate corrodes for fun and makes the paint bubble.
Seen a few with sticking rear calipers.
Probably other bits I've forgotten too but has been discussed a fair few times on here recently, I'm sure a search will yield. Link us to the car you're looking at?
