Hello,

I'm seriously thinking of buying an A3 1.8t quattro sport and i'm arranging a viewing of one later. Just a couple of question's, it's a 2000 W reg done over 100k, is this mileage a problem if it has been serviced regularily? What, if anything, is there to look out for? Am i right in thinking these cars have a cambelt?

Any info on these cars would be appreciated, i much prefer them to the golfs or seats with the same engine

A few recent threads for you to look through but issues largely the same as a MK4 Golf, drop links, top mounts, cam belt, water pump, dash LCD, Haldex oil change.

Cambelt should be done about every 60k if you want the engine to last.
Haldex is every 20k oil and every 40k oil and filter.
No way should the oil be left alone for more than 10k miles.

My S3 has now done over 150k however I wouldn't say it's been anywhere near as reliable as I hoped, it's not had an easy life though!

I've also just seen a turbo quattro which is very reasonably priced at a garage, however it doesn't have any service history at all. It looks the dogs but i'm dubious about the lack of service history and it's done 113k, is this a bad idea?

Call Audi on 0800699888 and give them the registration number. They will be able to tell you exactly when and where it was serviced whilst in the Audi service network, and at what mileages. They'll also have information regarding any recalls or warranty work, although you might have to contact the Audi Centre(s) directly to find out what was done.

Don't call this number from a mobile - it's premium rate if I remember correctly but they're always very helpful.

Check along the rain gutter on the roof quite prone to rust, Audi are aware and will fix it FOC under the bodywork warrenty.

I ran one of these upto 123000 miles most of the issues have already been highlighted but thought I would mention that I had to get the clutch and flywheel done at 115,000 also had to replace both electric window motors over my time with the car

Hope this helps as they are great little cars and I really miss mine

Great cars. My wife's needed the coil packs replaced (under warranty thankfully) and I think there were a couple of other recalls but I can't remember what for. The rear calipers seized 2 or 3 times which was a pain but easily rectified.
