Have driven one twice now, both times in the pi$$ing rain and it was superb. Very grippy and nicely adjustable. Great seats and, oh yes, it sounds bloody great.

Good to hear, the one I drove was blue!

I'm actuallyu buying this unseen but the dealer has emailed me lots of photos (at my request). It was a VW car, done 10,000 miles and got a good deal by getting it done before the end of the month... They seem to have had a slow month and got a bit of a desperate phone call this morning.

Have only driven the Mk4 myself and that was in damp conditions. Like you say grippy and adjustable. I feel the R32 is a great car which doesn't get a lot of praise. Great interior, 4wd and that noise. Whats not to like?

Blue ones are much slower than black ones... so you are going for it then? will come up and take you for a run in the battle bus soon.

Whilst I dont wish to ruin the buying experience of your lovely new car, that one was registered in Yorkshire so wont have been a "VW car" (though what the means is open to interpretation). All (or most) VAG UK staff/demo cars are either from MK (starts with a K) or Oxford (starts with an O) and only kept for 6months.

I know this as a dealer tried to sell me an ex National Car Rental car as a ex VW staff car, and that Provincial Securities was the name VW uses for their company fleet.

I'll likely do about 15k miles a year in it so I'm not really fussed that it's only going to do 20-25mpg. And as for the road tax, it's only equivalent to an extra £20 a month or so. Hardly bank-breaking stuff.
