My company has 3 Passats

06 Passat 140 TDi Sport Saloon on 17" Monte Carlo Alloys
08 Passat 140 TDi Sport Estate on 18" Chicago Alloys
57 Passat 170 TDi Sport Estate on 17" Monte Carlo Alloys

The car with the 18" wheel needs 4 tyres every 20K miles where the others on the 17" wheels only need fronts every 20K with the rears lasting 40K miles min. The two cars on the 17" wheels are driven by myself and another petrol head (weekend club racer bloke) so get a hard life, but the guy with the 18" wheels drives very gently (As can be seen by the MPG figures on the expenses) and carries no heavy loads in his car.

We have had 4 wheel alignment done twice once by VW and then by an independent by they say all fine.

So those of you that have these wheels on a Passat. Is it just one of those things or is there a problem?

Not sure of the 18 vs 17" debate, but mine definitely liked its tyres until I got the tracking done - there is a well known issue with tyre wear on the rear of these and the VW settings don't correct it.
