Hi

Am looking to service my MK5 Golf GTI, it is due is 40k service. Am trying to avoid taking it back to the main dealer for the service so looking for specialist VW garage based in Hertfordshire area.

VW are quoting me £400 for main service and £680 for the cam belt change!! No thanks you.

Any recommendation?

Thanks

I've forgotten the name but there is quite a good indy in Harpenden.

I'd avoid Chapmans in St Albans, I've heard of them ripping people off and supplying used parts from written of cars and trying to pass them of as new parts.

Also if you do go to a main dealer, avoid Wayside in St Albans, they are the worst garage I have ever come across in my life.

I'm pretty much in the same situation as you SP89, where did you go in the end? I'm looking at taking it to Prestige Performance on Hatfield Road.

Used them once a while ago with a BMW, wasn't all that impressed. They were expensive, unable to correctly diagnose a fault and had the cheek to change my tax disk holder for one of there own. I also don't think the mechanics are all that professional.

May have improved since then though.

It seems pretty hard to find a decent garage! Anyone else have any recommendations? As I'm out of my 3 year warranty I really don't want to take it to a dealer frown
