Hi Folks,

Looks like the head is cracked on my car, I'm just about to start looking around, but if anyone has any suggestions as to where a 1.8t 20v head can be found either newly refurbished or second hand but with no cracks then that would be helpful.

Should be pretty much the same as on any VAG 1.8t from around 2000, however I need to do some checking on that.

Cheers,
Ben

PS. it's almost funny, I joined PH when my cars engine went bang the first time.

this chap is a bit newer and from the chat seems like a decent bloke, but never deal with him personally.

Thanks have sent of enquirys and will give them a call as well when I get chance.

ETA: Guy from the garage spoke to a VAG dealer, it's ~£1600+ vat for a new head not sure whether to rofl or cry to be honest.

Club Gti or Edition 38 may throw something up.

Or even ebay.

That's ridiculous!

Give Pete Reeve a try at the Quattro Corner. He normally deals with older Audi models but he's a top chap and is very reasonably priced.

It's not the garage that's the problem, he's actually being great, it's VAG's charge for a new head that I can't justify on a car that's really not worth that much any more. On the plus side the block itself looks pretty good for 80k hehe

Hopefully the garage has found a few options that will help, he's already found one inc valves for around £550 but that's slightly unknown.

Pete Reeves only supplies Audi parts as far as I'm aware. Anyway, I'm not entirely sure that he deals with second hand or refurbed parts.

Have you tried MRC? I know it's clutching at straws abit but if Lucas knows anyone with a head for sale, he'd let you know.

Ah, that'd be me getting the wrong end of the stick then hehe

Depending on how today goes and what the people I've asked and the garage have asked say will be giving a few tuning places a call as I might see what's involved in fitting the big port head.

Well all the people I tried to contact didn't really have anything useful to say. However it would appear the garage it's at have been able to find a refursbished head with 20 new valves and a 2 year garuntee for not daft money! So hopefully car will be back on the road soon and work for another 60-80k.
