Just had the car serviced today, everything was ok except a few minor problems. The CV boot has split, they said £110 to do that but I'm just going to take it to my local specialist who will do it at half the price?
Onto the main question, I tried to clear this up with the service advisor but didn't get a definitive answer. The car is now on time and distance servicing as of last year, she said because I've been putting in Castrol Edge 5w30 that would explain the higher oil consumption as they changed it to 10w40. She said to top up with 10w40 semi synthetic castrol oil, now which one is that? What exact oil would they have used?

The oil grade is nothing to do with the oil consuption, some Audi's just use loads of oil. The official spec before its considered a concern is 1 litre per 1000km or 600 miles.
The oil we used for "fixed servicing" as oposed to AVS is in a big green drum and says Castrol Semi sythetic and 10w40 on it.
I'm 99% sure if you buy it in a shop, its megnatec, but we buy 208Litre drums and it doesnt show a trading name like 5 litres from a shop does, it just shows the spec.
Its what I use in my car, the AVS oil is to thin for me.

She said because last year they filled it up with 10w40 and I kept topping up with 5w30 it dilluted it? I don't know how true that is but sort of makes sense as before that service it wasn't drinking as much oil. Yep I saw that magnatec but she showed me some Castrol SLX bottle? I'll just use magnatec from now on and maybe the oil consumption should go down? Can any local garage do the CV boot for me?
