On hard lock? Pretty typical for most cars with PAS.

Maybe check the power steering fluid level, and the drive belt tension and condition.
Could be the ps pump also.cheers hope you get it sorted asap.

Common problem its called 4 wheel drive, hard lock and centre diff = tyre shudder on lock specially bad first thing in the morning when the fluid and the tyres are cold.

Just turn the radio up for the 1st tight corner and relax.

All the quatro cars do that, RS4 especially. Never notived it in R8's but only driven 4 or 5 so maybe just didnt notice it.

The massive tires also add to the problem. I just add more revs wink

yes

My old 997 used to do it too. Felt like something very-expensive-to-fix was happening, but I soon got used to it.

My old quattro turbo would only make a crunching noise on full lock when the diff was locked up, (the inner wheel trying to turn at the same revs as the outer wheel) but never in normal 4WD. The OP didnt say that he had the diff locked up. With the diff not locked they shouldnt make any untoward noises.

Have you driven 20 or 30 different RS4's + RS6's. They all do it, Had an V8 S4 in today that was the same.

Still havnt seen an R8 to test but wouldnt be supprised at all if its normal for that too.

Dont think diff locks have been fitted since the great UR 5 cylinder cars, which you had. Maybe teh centre diff wasnt so tight on the 5 cylinder cars.

Finally tried one, V8 r-tronic sadly. But yes its exactly the same as the RS4 RS6 etc.

Nothing to worry about.
