2001 Polo - Starting problem HELP!

Hi guys,
i hope you can help. my 1.4 polo, aka my baby! on saturday refused to start. it wasnt the battery because the lights, radio etc all worked. it didnt try to turn over so i dont think its petrol problems. after 5 or 6 attempts it started like there was nothing wrong! any ideas what it could be?
anyone else had this problem?

Could be a starter motor.

Take it to a garage and they'll diagnose it?

its just come from the garage!!! thought i'd ask on here first to see if anyone else has had the same problem.
