S6 2.2 20V Upgrades - HELP NEEDED
Discussion
In the never ending search for huge power from little money I bought a '96 Audi S6 saloon a few months back. I didn't mean to buy it, but it had 80,000 miles on the clock, stunning service history... and was £1,400. How could I not?
My goal is to see how much performance I can get for a total spend (including car) under £2,000.
The bill so far is:
1x Audi S6 = £1,400
1x Remap (now 288BHP) = £300
6x Upgraded brake hoses = £100
TOTAL = £1,800
I would be really grateful for idea about what to do next.
I obviously do not have budget for an exhaust system, but could get a nice induction kit (if anyone can recommend one). Or I am missing something else obvious?
Thanks!

If you wanted to spend more, get an RS2 Turbo & Intercooler, Injectors and a live map, some Samco hoses, you'be be looking between 350 - 380bhp then. (you'd be wanting bigger brakes as well at that point to, if not already!)
If £3k's your absolute limit though,I think your best bet would be to put that extra £200 into a slush fund just in case. The remap/chip you've bought already is by far the best bank for buck.
ETA - doh, i misread, i thought you were at £2800 already! Look at getting the above BUT, you may want to take into consideration a brake upgrade first. Porsche 996 calipers (or Boxster S) with A8 discs is a popular combo.

Agree RS2 turbo is the way to go, anything above 380bhp i believe is where you need new internals.
288bhp, was that a live remap? Curious to see which chip you opted for. I am running an MTM 275 map on mine.
RS2 turbo or a hybrid K24/26 MTM did have a simlar spec one, Nothelle also used something like that too for the N300.
RS2 manifold
RS injectors
freeflowing exhaust
RS2 airbox
And bag for the buck, NOS...
big brakes!
i will dig out a thread but a chap on audifans had a setup which had the turbo spooling from 1800rpm to get more out of the rev range.
I have heard mixed reports on the urS4/S6 saloons having a floatier back end.
KnightRiderS2 has wandered on here, he built up an RS2 spec coupe last year to around 380bhp, worth sending him a pm.
£1400 for one with sub 100k on the clock is a good deal, hoping its a manual?

2.2 S6 has A8 discs out of the box, you only really need to swap the brakes on the early cars with the weird UFO brakes. Thanks for all the suggestions so far!
Yes, it is a manual - this is my 5th urS4/S6, never driven an Auto, never want to!
The remap was done by Ian at Big Performance specifically for the car - that way I could push it further knowing that it would do no harm. Got oodles more torque too.
The RS2/hybrid turbo will be for 2010 (although I am not sure what I need to budget for that), for now I do just have an extra £200 to spend.
Interesting about the A8 brakes though...

£200...
-7A cams, longer duration than the AAN/ABY. i sold a set a few months ago for £120.
-RS2 injectors are also about he £200 mark.
-RS2 airbox & a good filter.
Assume everything else is in good order and doesnt need some TLC spent?

if you dont know have a very comprehensive setup will give you a ball park for what to allow this/next year
Personally i am quite happy with mine as it is with the MTM remap and a Stromberg stainless exhaust. At 182k if the turbo goes then i then may consider the hybrid/RS2 route.
