Yet another problem with my crappy V6 4motion

My 1 1/2 year old golf has no developed another problem. Basically it feels like the clutch is slipping, it doesn't happen all the time but the pedal travel is sometimes rather short before the bite and if let let up reasonable smoothly but quickly and then throttle applied it seems to slip. The odd thing is it comes and goes. Could this be a problem with the clutch or perhaps the Haldex 4 wheel drive system? The most irritating thing is I can find no mention of Clutch fluid etc in the manual - everything else but clutch... Anyone have any ideas before I have to go and leave it with a VW dealership for the next month?

Your quite right VW used to have a rep for reliability ... not any more...
One of the fastest growing 'rumours' around, this one. Perfectly true as far as everyone I know (who has a VW) is concerned. Lots of niggly 'small' problems not helped by the dealer's lack of time, people and space to fix 'em all under warranty.
This says one thing - they are getting a lot worse!
PS Something I found out the other day when the wife's 1 year old Polo had it's 3rd breakdown is if you phone the dealer and they tell you they can't repair it for a couple of weeks as they're so busy, and there's no chance of a loan car, if you call VW assistance they'll get your car booked in to the very same dealer (and arrange a loan car) the next day!!

I've got a 4 year old Seat Ibiza (MkIII Golf underneath) and have had loads of niggling problems with it. The pipe for the rear wash wipe is always falling off, the car has an intermitent electrical problem, meaning when you start it the lights don't work. Turn it off and restart it and everythings fine. And a couple of weeks ago the nearside front wheelbearing failed. The car has done 29,000 miles in four years. Reliable and well built my arse
Wife bought an ex demo new shape Seat Ibiza, we have now covered 20k. Lights keep flicking on and off whilst driving, latch on the glove box has failed, seat has now stuck in the most forward position and their is a strange clunking noise from the rear suspension. Trading it in for an Audi A4 Avant 1.9TDi tomorrow so that should be better.
Previous mk4 Golf GTi T and Audi A4 2.8 Avant were perfect.

I got a golf V5 as my company car thinking that they were reliable... After 60K I have yet to do more than 5000 miles without something going wrong, I have had radiator fans die, the fuse box went up in smoke, 4 coil packs (the car was off the road for 2 months waiting for the first coil pack) and a boat load of engine management faults !...
When I got the golf I also bought the wife a polo, it had done 5000 miles when the clutch pedal sheared off it's bracket whilst changing gear !!
The only thing that VW have that I think is any good is VW Assistance, these guys are really helpful and really try hard to sort the problems..
I have complained big time to VW and what did I get, a free service - not much good to me when the lease company pays for all the servicing anyway !

Mrs. Phlap's Golf has generally been great but have had the great pleasure of repeatedly turning up at VW dealer in an unreliable TVR to ask when the sensible Golf would finally be fixed?
The service manager said he loved TVRs but 'didnt have the bottle as they always break down'

The golf v6 4mo is one of the best cars ive ever driven but the reliability is shocking and the dealers clueless. Theres lots of problems with the traction control and all the sensors that feed it.
When it goes wrong the solution seems to be for the dealer to keep changing modules until the warning lights go out usualy at £500 a go. They eventualy fixed mine when they realised that their instructions were for a german lhd . When they fitted the module the right way all the problems seemed to sort themselves. The front suspension is bad for creaking, something noticed by a private garage on 4mos they get in. The build quality inside isnt much better the cd changer in the boot packed in and several bits of plastic have come adrift inc the ashtray lid vanishing inside the console.
Inspite of this I still think its a great car.
If anyone knows of companies that do induction kits chips upgrades could you please let me know as everything seems to be for the 1.8T
