A4 cabriolet tiptronic gearbox slipping
Discussion
Can't be tiptronic then, will be multi. See this thread:

when cold the gearbox doesnt slip (or I cant feel it slip) it started a month or so ago and at first did not notice it. When engaging drive there was a slight clunk and sometimes the car felt as if it moved a little but only slight. Then my wife noticed a slight shudder and when I drove it it felt like the drive slipping, over next three weeks got worse until now when driving in the lower gears the box feels as if it is slipping. On setting off the car will get to 10mph or so before a second or two of slight shudder loss of drive. Then periodically when driving but only in the lowers gears.
When you engage manual it happens around the upper end of first, second and this morning slightly into third.
I hope this helps.

I still dont understand what you mean by the lower gears, IF your car is NOT 4 wheel drive. (1.8T can be either) then its a multi tronic box. Multi tronic boxes dont have 1st 2nd and 3rd gears etc like a normal auto, although in manual mode, it fakes it to apear as though it does.
The two commons problems with the box are.
(1) Total loss of drive, the engine revs and the car doesnt accelerate at all intermitanly, usually followed by all the gears lighting up on the dash. Normally caused by the ECU
(2) Judder on pulling away, very much like clutch judder in a manual car. Usually cause by clutch pack/input shaft assy failure.
Your description is like a bit of both. So you need to identify which it is before you continue, otherwise you'll be £1000 lighter and still have the fault.
Try doing some hill starts using about 30%-40% throttle to pull away, should bring on the judder if thats what its got.
