Audi TT 225 - 52 Plate, 45k - What to look out for?
Discussion
Sold my 52 plate 225 a couple of months back - nice car...
Comes with leather, xenons, climate, 6 speed box, heated seats and not much else as standard. Think I even paid extra for a (single slot) CD player but at least the metallic paint was a no cost option. Plenty come with Bose as an upgrade.
What to look out for....at 45k it may not have had its cambelt changed but it needs it at that age. By the time I'd sold mine bold arbs had been changed, temp sensor and indicator relay had both gone along with a couple of coil packs and the fuel gauge was going (dashpod problem). Just before I sold it one of the rear springs broke and the radiator fans needed replacing as well. Brakes (pads and discs) lasted until around 60k - not tracked but I'm not light footed either.
Sounds worse than it was - mostly just stuff wearing out. I think the suspension takes a bit of a hammering - it's not the most graceful of cars as seems like it bludgeons its way through bumps etc. Effective though.

Thanks Gren. Food for thought.
Can you give me an idea of prices for those?
Prices for the car or the issues? Part ex'd mine for 6.75k (75k miles), assume add another £1500 or so retail. Can you give me an idea of prices for those?
All those faults (2 x arbs, 2 x spings, fans and electricals) probably added up to around £1k plus another £400 for brakes (pads all round and new front discs and fluid). All the work after the first 3 yrs was done by local independents/specialists. Not bad for 7 years of ownership. Tyres were the most costly things at around £400 for a set of 4 Goodyear F1s every year although that could go up to £750 or so dependent on brand/dealer. Servicing was around £250-£300 every 18 months.
Make sure you really are buying a 225 and not a 180 tarted up to look like a 225.
Cambelt change is a must (and include water pump/tensioner while there). Coil packs go but are obvious as it will run like a dog. Simple fix. Air Mass Meters (Air Flow Meters) can play up giving mid-boost hesitation or other odd behaviour. £100 fix. Dash Pod was quite common - as TT says Audi will replace FOC.
We sold ours at just over 60k and I think there was a noise coming from the rear diff, wasn't wheel bearings. Make sure the Haldex oil is changed per Audi recommendations.
IMO avoid any tarted up models (for insurance reasons if nothing else) - the std car is fine for 'er indoors
