Hi Guys

Would like to pick your brains on the pros and cons of owing a R32, thinking of getting one as second car.

TIA

What do you need to know? There have been a few A3 3.2 and Golf R32 threads on here that might be worth a look for.

Just what tends to go wrong and what to look out for on purchase a second hand one.

Search on here will throw up a number of threads, but uk-mkivs.net has a bunch of owners who'd be able to contribute as well.

Run away from anything rattly - st oil or infrequent changes can make a mess of the chains. Sometime they break for the fun of it. This isn't common at all but is expensive to repair.

Haldex oil every 20 and filter too at 40.

DSG cars need box oil every 40.

Bolsters on Koenig chairs.

Electric windows not going up/down (standard MK4 foible).

Rubbish aircon (standard MK4 foible).

Crap/naff/chavvy mods (standard MK4 foible).

Standard exhaust is ghey and should be binned in favour of a Milltek immediately.

i've had my mk5 r32 for a few months now and i love it!

I can honestly say its the best car i have owned, the above poster is right it can be thirsty but if its you 2nd car i'm assuming you aren't going to be doing loads of miles in it.

Non resonated Miltek exhaust is a fine mod but loud as a daily driver you might want the resonated one although the std mk5 exhaust sound good stock, you will find the equipment levels vary greatly make a list of what you prefer and off you go

Leather recaros are nice so is sat nav, winter pack etc....

Look on R32oc.com for more info

Try www.tyresmoke.net too. They have a good number of R32 owners.

Don't do it!

Too heavy for serious driving and crap on track.

Do it! Heavy, but fantastic on a track - I spent all day last weekend at Cadwell with an R32 and believe me they go well!

MPG isn't the best, but when you go full chat through a tunnel you forgive it! Get some good tyres on it though - Eagle F1's make a big difference to handling.
