Hi

Thread I have going
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... local Audi dealer

Would be interested if you could explain this one
Steering wheel is correctly coded
test step read long code ok
shows existing code
test step Decode long code
test step Select special function 2
test step compile code
test step Write long code
Diagnosis ok
then shows new code
OKAY
Test step write old code ok
then shows old code
okay

When coding the steering wheel it actually asks if you wish to apply the new selection now, does the same apply to the long coding part as it really looks like a lack of pressing enter or accept?

To be honest I dont understand the long codes fully, and dont mess with them if I can help it.

Not fitted cruise to an S3 before but done lots of the current shape A3's so dont see why it would be any different.

I go into the Steering column electrucs module and recode it "automatically" computer asks questions about the spec and from the ansers generates a new code automatically, which is then stored. It askes if its right or left hand drive, what spec steering wheel swiches are fitted etc, and of course with or without cruise.

Then you go into the Engine Control module and follow a simple test plan to "ACTIVATE CCS"

If they changed the long code suggests it didnt work the normal way and so had to do it manaully. Or they did the code in the Steering module and forgot to activate it in the engine one. (i've done that before) Road tested after fitting didnt work, removed trims rechecked what I'd done only to realises hadnt activated it in engine DOH!

Without anctaully doing one on an S3 I cant be certain, but it does sound like they did somthing wrong if it got fixed in 10mins with VAGCOM.

Ask your VAGCOM chappy if he activated it in the engine, or changed the code in the Steering Column Electronics control module.

Hi thanks for the reply,he changed the long coding in the engine module, the steering wheel module had been coded correctly,it certainly looks like the tech doing forgot to press enter/apply etc as he had generated the correct new code a couple of times on the report.
