Hi all,

following a debate about getting a S3 or a Golf GTI I have decided to go for a new S3.

Now I just need to spec it.I'm going to get a 3 door manual in sprint blue with cruise, parking sensors, privacy glass and bluetooth prep.As far as the seats were concerned I was thinking of spending the extra £275 approx on the 2 colour leather and having them in grey(silver)/black.Now i'm not so sure this will suit and I'm leaning towards the no cost option of leather/alcantara again in black.

So what are the thoughts on this ? Is the alcantara fairly hard wearing? It'll be doing about 20-25,000 miles a year but not subjected to any kids, dogs or other careless beasts.

Will it stand up to this wear over the 2 years I'll have the car?

Any advice/thoughts gratefully recieved.Thanks.

I've been driving a mark6 golf with alcantara in the main seat sections, still looks new after 6 months and 8,000 miles.

I had an old shape S3 and had blue alcantara seat centres and black leather sides, I clocked up 120K miles and at that stage the alcantare was starting to "bobble" but was nothing that a good brushing wouldn't put right, the leather however around the boosters had worn down to natural leather (ie all the black had gone) at the point where your arse rubs them when you get in and out. This was only the drivers seat mind and all the other seats still looked good as new.

In my experience it's largely down to how well the car is taken care of - I've seen it wear quickly but equally seen hgh mileage cars with it in good condition.

Treat it with care and you'll be fine smile

I have a new S-Line A4 with black leath/alc and silver stitching and its looks great.
6yo son has given the back seat some hell and they have always cleaned up like new.

Personally I think it looks a great and classier than full leather. The silver stitching finishes it.
