A6 2.7 tdi good buy??
Discussion
Just purchased a 2.7tdi SE avant 2007, 1 owner, 70k miles full Audi service and I am delighted with it. Comfortable, quiet, feels solid as a rock and seems to have plenty of go. 6 Speed manual and got 50+ mpg on 160 miles motorway run (according to the trip computer).
Edited to add.
One criticism would be the steering which is too light in my opinion and lacks feel, but does make for very easy driving.

Had my 2.7 S line a fortnight now, again only 62K on the clock.
Pretty much second what has been said, quiet, composed, surprised to be getting 45mpg (computer) on my 30 mile dual carriageway run to work in the morning after 55mpg in my Mk 4 Golf TDI130. I think it's calming me down, the A6 doesn't like to be ragged, and it feels wrong to even try.
Downsides, yes the steering is too light at low speeds, and strangely uncommunicative, even if it electronically weights up, at mid to high speed, I have to keep a keen eye on where the steering is pointed as you wouldn't know by feel for any lock on. Mines a manual and the gearing for the first, and probably the first four gears is too short, third can be a bit over there somewhere on the throw, it's a shame you can't get the gear number shown on the info screen, cos it's so quiet, gears 3-5, could be any of them, have to look down to see. It doesn't seem to really want to be rev passed 3000-3300, so the rev band is 1500-3300, about the same as the golf but that was more willing, though it's so quiet you don't realise how rapidly you're traveling, I'd seriously consider the tiptronic auto in retrospect, the short first gear makes it slow off the mark, once into 70+ range it really comes into his preferred operating zone, and I'm fairly sure it will munch autobahn all day. Engine is silky smooth, and very quiet.
I love the electronic handbrake, and auto lights, I have a minor quibble with the cruise control, in that the lever is hidden by a steering spoke on my 3 spoke steering wheel, and slightly greater quibble there's nowhere to rest your right foot when the cruise is on, my golf the wheel arch intruded into the pedal area and made a handy place to rest ones foot. Wish I'd got a rear parking sensor, it's big ol beast and for the life me I can't approximate the corners, or length yet, I'm usually 2+ feet conservative at the moment.
I like it.

I think the 2.7 auto is multitronic rather than tiptronic. Fuel consumption sounds similar to my 3.0tdi. Is the 2.7 quattro? I felt that the steering on the quattro was a bit heavier, but it is still on the light side. The A6 even the quattro is not as nimble as a BMW 5 series.
You can have quattro in the 2.7, that would give you tiptronic auto, the front driving 2.7 auto would be a multitronic, and I wouldn't touch a multitronic, as a used buy, with my own money, after what's been oft mentioned about them here, it's strictly manual or tiptronic only.Yes, the 2.7q has tip while the fwd version has multitronic. I've had mine for 2 years now, 2.7 Le Mans with the multitronic - the box has been faultless from new. In fact the whole car has been 100% reliable. It's done 57k miles now.
I've been disappointed with the mpg though - I get around 34mpg overall (around 500 miles to a tank). Driving it more sedately I get 37. I expected more. Most of mileage is on motorways, but does include town journeys - the average really does drop in town.
A good car overall, and as others have said the engine is very smooth and quiet and does perform well. My understanding is the 3.0 is not far off the mpg, but with much more poke, plus it has a tip box which most prefer, so might be a better choice?
