Hi, can anyone offer any help with this? rear noise coming from passenger side, intermittent & very annoying. can only hear driving at 30 and below. Car still under warranty, the tailgate has been stripped down and re-aligned, the shock absorber has been replaced, & and rubber been replaced, but the noise is still there. VW are confused, but me I'm at my wits end. Car has only done 19K. Can anyone help me?

Hi Claire,
Haven't heard of this one myself but for all my Golf issues I've registered with www.uk-mkivs.net. Bucket loads of information on their forums so give them a go and see what they say.

There are specific sections for the MKV too.

(cool car btw!)

Exhaust misalignment and contact with the body?

Loose trim somewhere?

Spare wheel or tool kit (if present) not strapped down properly?

Hi, thanks yes agree great car shame about this noise though. Am off to VW later this afternoon to make sure they keep the warranty claim 'open' hopefully someone will be able to pin point the issue. by the way that website is showing error, is the address correct?

Do the rear seats split-fold in this version of the Golf?

If so maybe try getting a willing passenger to stick himself/herself through the rear seats, into the boot while you drive around. Obviously you want to do this fairly slowly and with no other traffic around, maybe in a large, empty, carpark?

You could lift the boot cover to see if it's anything sliding around in there.

This might help isolate the source of the noise as it's very difficult to do it from the driver's seat.

I had a very annoying knocking in a previous car, it turned out to be a couple of golf balls that had got into the compartments in the boot for the warning triangle and top-up oil smile

Hi, yes seats do split. VW technician placed himself almost into the boot and agreed with the area the sound was coming from, hence the shock replacement and rubber. Apart from removing the trim on the inside of the car (which was going to be my next suggestion to VW) & to mention the exhaust (as suggested in this forum)- not sure what else is left for me to do - sell it perhaps?

Mk5golfgti.co.uk, you'll almost certainly get the answer there.
