Dear all,

So the Q7 is 3 years old at the end of this month. Audi "kindly" sent me an unsolicited form for an extended warranty (how kind) run by Mondial. I phone them for a quote thinking it'll be about £900'ish as this is what the extended warranty was on both our old Cayenne S and 911.

I did not bother getting a 3rd Party warranty on the old Gransport and it did not cost me anything before I sold it for the Granturismo S earlier this year.

So I nearly fell off my (metophoric) seat when I was told an annual warranty for a 4.2 TDI was £2,300 per year.

It is the wife's daily driver and with 2 small kids, I do not need that hassle of sorting out issues myself,,,,, but £2,300 a year means I could instead buy a nice Pug 1.9 GTI this year, a R5 GT Turbo next year and a Pug 106 Rallye the year after as I originally planned to keep the car for 6 years. You see the dilema ;-)

So do I or don't I?????? The car has been in 5 times for electronic gremlins over the past 3 years (Ocean-Drive suspension levels, dropped windows, temp gague @ 95 C, Bluetooth not working etc) and have no idea how much this would have costed had I paid for the work.

Thoughts are very gratefully recieved.

Stu

Blimey!

Our Discovery 3 had been in for various electronic gremlins during it's first 3 years so when the warranty ran out and they wanted £1400/year (and I thought that was bad) I got rid as I had lost my confidence in the car.

Surely at £2300 you could stick it somewhere and use it as a repair fund and if you are lucky you may have a nice collection of £2300s after 6 years.

That amount is really taking the pi55. It's like when Honda asked me to cough up £10,000 (no misprint) a year for fully comp on a £8,000 CBR600RR.

Personally I would not bother. They are in it to make a profit so in the long run you will be down.

That's ridiculously expensive, BMW warranty on M cars is £951 and that covers everything with 0 excess and European emergency assistance.

went through the same decision with my RS4 a few months back - except i was quoted £1600 odd (limited to 15k miles per year). Decided not to go ahead and went with Warranty Direct instead for £850 i think it was - only time will tell. A contributing factor was that my old Audi policy refused to pay out on covered parts due to 'issues' with the Audi dealer, what has that got to do with me you ask, exactly my thoughts, im still fighting it. All i can say is that it in my experience it isnt as bomb proof as some people claim.

Try WD see what they quote you - there is room for negotiation with them to get lots added at no extra cost.

With WD (not that I've ver used them) ignore their quote - and they come back with a cheaper one the next day.

Some people over on the Boxter.net forum got Tesco warranties for their Porsches. I tried them for my Discovery and they appeared to cover the same as LR for almost a third of the price.

They don't offer it any more (presumably because it was costing them money).

Thats mental, I paid £1500 for 2 years Audi dealer warranty on my S4 and that was 5 years old when I bought it.

Just to throw another angle at it. I had to have a replacement starter for my 4.2TDi A8 which luckily was done under warranty.

There was 24 hrs labour as apparently it is an engine out job plus the cost of a starter, I don't reckon I would have had much change from £4k !!

Mondial does seem excessively expensive though, there must be better deals around.

have an A6 and had a similar quote. I too had electronic gremlins fixed under warranty cost for bluetooth was £1300 or so.

Nevertheless, I decided bAudi are taking the piss, so self insure. Warranty Direct and Warranty wise were much cheaper and could be extended to cover electronics, but I am a gambler at heart. So far so good. Warranty expired in march.

I wouldnt bother - £2300 - what are the chances of needed to spend in excess of that amount each year in repairs?

Log onto Warrantywise, select all options including "wear and tear" and let us know how much that costs. They are a good company by all accounts - just make sure you select cover for an hourly rate for labour that is relevantsmile

Has anyone thought even with a fat margin, that this price probably reflects the estimated average annual claim cost (+ profit margin) for repairs to a Q7 in year 4/5/6 etc.? This doesn't bode well IMO.

i took it out,
under warranty had a few things changed.
tv tuner
ami volume control

the tuner alone would have been 1200 quid.

it won't take much to get your premium back

Warrantywise will cover all that on my A7 at £750 approx for one year or £1700 for three years. Thats with cover upgraded to £150 excess and labour rates up to £100 per hour. Before I use my discount code.

I agree, the warranty price may be insane, but so are some of the repair costs.
